I am a novelist, with an accompanying practice in socially-engaged, place-specific writing. Fascinated by the relationships between stories, places and communities, my work explores identity, belonging, landscape and home. I have a particular interest in urban spaces and urban change.

My first novel, Ten Things I’ve Learnt About Love, was published by Picador in 2012 and in fifteen other countries.  Before The Fire, was published in 2015. My third novel, Jack and Bet, will be published by Picador in spring 2020.
