From April to December 2013 I had the privilege of being writer-in-residence at Withy Trees Day Centre and CSV Learning North West, as part of the artist residency programme, Where The Heart Is. The residency looked to explore ideas of home and care in two very different settings: a day centre used by people living with dementia, and an alternative education provider for 14-24 year olds.
The Where the Heart Is exhibition, Beyond art therapy: encounters between artists and people in the care system, opens 9th October 2014. Encompassing the work of five artists, myself, poet Sarah Hesketh, filmmaker Chiara Ambrosio, painter Liam Walker and dancer Jennifer Essex, the exhibition includes four new short films, a powerful collection of photographs, hundreds of paintings on found photographs, biscuits, bread boards and cigarette cards, and a major installation of printed poems.
My own work is titled Who Asked You?, a book of personal essays, short stories and edited conversations.
Venue: Museum of Lancashire, Stanley Street, Preston, PR1 4YP (the main exhibition is housed in a house next to the museum)
Dates & Times: 9th October – 6th December, Thursday-Sunday 10am-4pm
