Project Name: Stories From The Road
Dates: Spring-Summer 2015
Place: Oxford Road, Manchester
Partners: Cities@Manchester
There are no lines telling you where it starts and where it ends. So let’s draw them in. Two trails of coloured chalk across the tarmac. Here: from park to shops. Here: from library to hotel.
Over spring-summer 2015 I collected stories from Manchester’s ‘Corridor’ from people who live, work and travel along Oxford Road. These situated stories create a layered picture of this rapidly changing part of the city and what it means to the people who experience it.
You can read the full collection of 23 stories – from museum curators, artists, hairdressers, chefs, shop keepers and cyclists – on the Stories From The Road site. You can also read a new creative piece inspired by the project, called Corridor.
A collaboration between cities@manchester and UrbanWords, Stories From The Road offers an alternative map of The Corridor and celebrates the individual stories which inform, create and question our cities.
